Donkieskraal Guest Lodge

Donkieskraal is located on the family farm Sandberg, the owners put aside approximately 2000 hectares of unspoilt fynbos, veld and mountain areas and transformed it into a private game reserve. The very secluded Donkieskraal situated in the middle of the game reserve served as a hideaway for donkeys and horses during the Anglo Boer War (1899 – 1902). Later, in 1933 “Horse-sickness” broke out in the wetlands/vlei area that runs through the surrounding farms. A mere four kilometres away, at Donkieskraal, the animals were kept in isolation and escaped a certain death. The abundance of bird life, including a breeding pair of Black Eagles, Peregrine Falcons and the occasional cry of a Fish Eagle is every bird lover’s dream come true.

The Mountaintop gives you a bird’s eye view of the Cedarberg Mountains, the sea and the surrounding farmland. Accessing the game reserve and mountaintop is possible in the luxury of you own 4×4 vehicle or on a guided game viewing trip.

Eagles View

Owls Corner

This cozy chalet features a queen bed, a shower, a charming French bath, a small but well equipped kitchen, and a private braai area. Perfect for unwinding amid stunning landscapes.

Safari Tents
Experience the perfect blend of comfort and adventure in our luxury safari tents. Each tent features a queen bed, two single beds, and an en-suite bathroom. Enjoy a private braai or make use of the well-equipped communal kitchen, where every tent is provided with its own fridge, along with cutlery, crockery, pots, pans, and a gas stove. A large communal braai area is also available, making it an ideal spot to unwind and embrace the beauty of nature.

Campsites
Our 13 unique campsites offer spectacular views and stunning sunsets. Each site is equipped with a water and electricity point, its own braai, and some provide shade from surrounding trees. Two neat ablution facilities serve all campers, ensuring comfort during your stay. Some sites can accommodate up to four caravans, making it an ideal destination for both small and larger groups.
